NGC 4294 along with its mates in this area were all extremely difficult for me to observe this evening.  I was able to star-hop to the exact location by going back to the star west of NGC 4267 and working my way southwest and then south to the grouping of stars that mark out the path to NGC 4294 and NGC 4299.  Both of these galaxies required me to repeatedly check the star charts and the DSS images to verify the location before I was finally able to barely detect them with averted vision.  It was clear to me, however, that 4294 was a tad brighter and bigger than 4299, and the two locations that I picked were exact matches to the DSS image, so I am confident that I located them correctly.
