This view of central Auriga, obtained with my Nikon D600 and a 135 mm lens from a dark sky location northwest of Del Rio, TX, we see the three great open clusters strung along the spine of the Milky Way.  Even at this zoom range, the differences in the the presentation of the three Messier clusters are apparent.  M37 in particular is an exceptionally rich and interesting cluster.  Another interesting feature of this portion of the sky is the presence of dark clouds of gas and dust intruding into Auriga from the area of Taurus.  Unannotated image.
