Around midnight between January 15 and 16, I captured the great southern star Canopus low over the horizon from my 29°42' north latitude site.  The constellations in this area are rather barren except for the second brightest star.  They include Puppis, western Carina, Columba, Pictor, and Dorado.  Unannotated image.
