From my driveway in Virginia, definitely not a dark site, I took this image of the southern part of Canis Major, covering the three stars that make up the hindquarters of the Canine, δ, ε, and η and the surrounding areas that bleed over into Puppis. The main clusters in this area are M93 in Puppis, NGC 2362, the τ Canis Majoris cluster, NGC 2354, a large and rich but dim cluster north of &delta, and the two sprawling Collinder clusters at the bottom of the image. Unannotated image. |
