This view of Perseus focuses on the southwestern portion of the constellation, centered on the star β, otherwise known as Algol. The main deep sky object in this area is M34, the large open cluster close to the border with Andromeda. South of M34 is a bright but small galaxy, NGC 1023, and just to the east of Algol is the grouping of galaxies known as Perseus A, the largest of which is NGC 1275. Unannotated image. |
