While on a trip to Texas, I drove to an area near Fort Lancaster just south of interstate 10; the spot was a picnic area at the top of a plateau over-looking the valley / canyon made by the Pecos River.  In mid-May, just after dark, the constellation Puppis is slanting way over to the southwest; we can still see the three great Messier objects in Puppis, the open clusters M47, M46, and M93, which define the band of the Milky Way.  Unannotated image.
