While on a trip to Texas, I drove to an area near Fort Lancaster just south of interstate 10; the spot was a picnic area at the top of a plateau over-looking the valley/canyon made by the Pecos River. Several hours after the end of twilight, Centaurus has risen high enough to show Omega and many of the stars very well. If the southern horizon had not been obscured by clouds, we could have seen γ Crucis because it is over above the horizon from this latitude. Unannotated image. |
