One of the brightest carbon stars is UU Aurigae, located in the eastern portion of the constellation, away from the main pentagon-like pattern so familiar to sky-gazers.  This star is variable and ranges from about magnitude +5 to +7, and it is also a wide double star.  Deep images show its red-orange color.  Unannotated image.
