In November 1996 I traveled to Florida to do some low latitude astronomy, which included taking pictures with my Nikon FE2. This photo is centered on the border between Vela and Carina, with Canopus and Puppis to the right. We were low enough, probably in the Everglades, to catch the extremely interesting star cluster NGC 2516 just above the horizon. IC 2391 and NGC 2547 also show very prominently. The False Cross asterism can be seen at the bottom left, made up of two stars from Vela and two from Carina. Unannotated image, Back |
