In November 1996 I traveled to Florida to do some low latitude astronomy, which included taking pictures with my Nikon FE2.  In the middle of the night, the southern constellations of Caelum, Pictor and Dorado culminated over the Florida Bay south of my location in the Everglades.  Here we see Pictor at its highest in the south, with Dorado already tilting over to the west and Canopus leading Carina up from the southeast.  The most noteworthy object in Pictor is the star β Pictoris, around which three planets have been discovered using direct imaging, which is much less common than other indirect methods for detecting exo-planets.  Unannotated image, Back to Constellations
