Jupiter will spend the second half of 2026 and the first half of 2027 in the constellations Cancer and Leo, coming to opposition in February, so we now see it rising in late summer two hours before the Sun just below M44.  This morning, the king of planets shines at magnitude -1.82.  Jupiter will reach opposition on February 11 in Leo, only eight days before Mars does on the 19th.  This will be a rare instance of the two brightest outer planets coming to opposition around the same time.  Unannotated image.
