While we have been focused on Venus and Jupiter in the evening sky for the past three months, the maneuverings of Mars and Saturn in the morning were neglected. Now we finally turn our attention to the pre-dawn scene and catch Mars and Uranus in close conjunction between the Hyades below them and the Pleiades above (and off the top edge of the picture). Mars is still considerably fainter than Aldebaran. Unannotated image. |
Hover over the above thumbnail for a magnified view of Mars and Uranus; on this morning, Mars is magnitude +1.30 while Uranus is much dimmer at magnitude +5.79, with only 7'32" separating the pair. That is only slightly more than 1/10 of a degree! |
