Venus is situated in mid-Capricornus as the year 2020 rings in, still in the first stages of one of its August to June apparitions, almost exactly repeating its 2004 and 2012 apparitions.  The key word is "almost" because at the end of those two evening appearances, Venus transited the face of the Sun, whereas at the end of this particular apparition, it will just miss transiting the Sun because the geometry shifts slightly with each advance in the eight-year cycle.  On this evening, Venus is magnitude -4.00 and as can be seen, is well south of the ecliptic.  Unannotated image.
