Comet 46P/Wirtanen is a relatively small comet with an orbital period in our solar system of about 5.5 years.  During the latter part of 2018 and the first month of 2019, it came through our inner solar system and was close enough to Earth to become fairly bright, and unmistakable owing to the signature green color.  According to the Wikipedia article on it, the comet attained greatest brightness of around +3.9, which is easily within range of the unaided eye.  From this finder chart, we see that Wirtanen was located in the southwestern corner of Taurus on this evening, with a trajectory to the north-northeast.  Unannotated image
