Mars spent the year 2014 centered around its opposition in April in Virgo.  Since that time, it has moved through the bottom of the ecliptic and is now moving northward along it through the constellation Capricornus.  It will remain an evening sky object for awhile longer, although slowly sinking toward the Sun and fading.  On this evening, Mars is still fairly bright at magnitude +1.05 and situated almost level with alpha and beta Capricorni compared to the horizon.  Unannotated image.
