NGC 3073 is located east of the upper part of the foreleg of the Bear; I found it to be very difficult to detect.  At 123x, it was barely detectable with averted vision, only seen as a tiny hazy spot; I could not discern any structure, no orientation, no core, nothing.  By contrast, NGC 3079 (scan down the page listing to see my entry for this galaxy) was easy to see, which made it a good candidate for the Herschel 400i list.  This image by Robert Gendler shows NGC 3079 as the main spiral galaxy with NGC 3073 as the small elliptical galaxy in the lower left corner ~ a great comparison between the two.
