NGC 2236 is an open cluster in the area of the horn of Monoceros, just to the north of the Rosette Nebula.  The star-hop to the cluster is not difficult.  Start at 13 Monocerotis and go west and slightly south until you hit two stars close together, then go south to a slightly dimmer and closer pair of bright stars, and the cluster is just to the west of that star.  I found it to be surprisingly small, with just one bright star near the middle, with the rest being maybe five or so stars that were just on the edge of detectability.  They could barely be seen with direct vision, although with averted vision, several more could be detected.  Behind it all was an unresolved haze of fainter stars.
