NGC 2139 is on the eastern side of the main pattern of Lepus, in the southerly part of the constellation.  Star-hopping to this object is not easy because in its immdiate vicinity, there are no bright stars and no prominent patterns to help guide you.  I noted this object as having a very low surface brightness, with no concentration at all.  It was very faint, and required averted vision exclusively to see it.
