The only galaxy among the objects in Orion is located in close proximity to the carbon star W Orionis.  W Orionis makes a triangle with two equally bright stars oriented north-south which are west of W, and NGC 1762 is a short star-hop from the more northerly of those two.  I noted it as faint but quite concentrated, which made it not too difficult to see; it was like a fuzzy star without structure or orientation.  This galaxy is approximately 209 million light years away, and kind of surprising to me that a distant galaxy would be visible through the gas and dust in our own galaxy in the Orion direction.
