At first I was looking in completely the wrong place for this galaxy, until I consulted the detailed chart and realized I was looking about 10 degrees south of its actual location.  Once I locked onto the correct spot, I saw it immediately and with ease.  It was clearly non-stellar, but it had a fairly high surface brightness because it's so small.  My view through the telesceope matched exactly the view in the detailed image, with the two stars offset to the south.
