There was some slight confusion in identifying this galaxy, because my edition of Sky Atlas 2000® shows the object at this location as NGC 375, not 357; I don't know if that's an issue with any other source, but it could be something to watch for.  I found it to be difficult to locate since it's out in the middle of nowhere, but once I got the right spot, it was fairly obvious.  I noted it as having a well defined core surrounded by a more or less round halo of nebulosity.  A 20mm eyepiece was used for this observation, yielding 76x magnification.  The star-hop can be done several different ways and neither of them is great, but if you verify the patterns at each step, it keeps you on track.
